چکیده
Abstract. The concentration of atmospheric ions affects the total aerosol particle number concentrations in atmosphere as well new formation via ion-induced nucleation, ion–ion recombination, and effects on condensational growth. In this study, we investigate long-term trends a boreal forest environment using 16 years cluster ion (0.8–2 nm) intermediate (2–7 measurements characterize most important factors that explain those trends. We found median was 710 cm−3, 2–4 14 4–7 nm 9 cm−3. both have been increasing over 16-year measurement period, with by about 1 % yr−1 1.7 %–3.9 yr−1. increase can be best explained decrease coagulation sink caused larger particles. Meanwhile, dependence meteorological conditions is evident, but ionization sources do not seem to trend. This likely because dynamics are more complicated, so alone cannot directly variation. Season-specific analysis suggests while limiting factor for spring summer, different autumn winter. Based our findings, recommend comprehensive needed determine if ambient concentrations, temperature, changing abundance condensable vapors makes ion-mediated nucleation pathways relevant future.

متن کاملModelling atmospheric OH-reactivity in a boreal forest ecosystem
We have modelled the total atmospheric OHreactivity in a boreal forest and investigated the individual contributions from gas phase inorganic species, isoprene, monoterpenes, and methane along with other important VOCs. Daily and seasonal variation in OH-reactivity for the year 2008 was examined as well as the vertical OHreactivity profile. We have used SOSA; a one dimensional vertical chemistr...
متن کاملSulfuric acid and OH concentrations in a boreal forest site
As demonstrated in a number of investigations, gaseous sulfuric acid plays a central role in atmospheric aerosol formation. Using chemical ionization mass spectrometer the gas-phase sulfuric acid and OH concentration were measured in Hyytiälä, SMEAR II station, Southern Finland during 24 March to 28 June 2007. Clear diurnal cycles were observed as well as differences between new particle format...
متن کاملNon-volatile residuals of newly formed atmospheric particles in the boreal forest
The volatility of sub-micrometer atmospheric aerosol particles was studied in a rural background environment in Finland using a combination of a heating tube and a scanning mobility particle sizer. The analysis focused on nanoparticles formed through nucleation which were subsequently observed during their growth in the diameter range between 5 and 60 nm. During the 6 days of new particle forma...
متن کاملIon production rate in a boreal forest based on ion, particle and radiation measurements
In this study the ion production rates in a boreal forest were studied based on two different methods: 1) cluster ion and particle concentration measurements, 2) external radiation and radon concentration measurements. Both methods produced reasonable estimates for ion production rates. The average ion production rate calculated from aerosol particle size distribution and air ion mobility distr...
